How to Conduct Research Study

To achieve an academic success, one needs to know how to conduct research study, because a research study aims at identifying and exploring scientific, social and technical issues associated with the object of interest. As any process, it includes certain steps that are to be followed to attain the excellent result.
A research paper is the one that argues the point and analyzes the perspective. It serves as a culmination of the process of research as well as a final product that requires critical thinking, evaluation of sources, particular composition, and structure. The main procedure on how to conduct a research study requires at least 10 steps.
Firstly, it is important to define the research question or topic. It is a crucial step as it will determine all the future course of work. This topic may arise from researcher’s interest, hunch or curiosity over a certain issue.
Secondly, one is to distinguish between the primary and secondary research. The first one is the original research, which is authentic and was not previously documented in any article. It is based on scientific, engineering or medical experiments. As for the secondary research, it is a literary review on a particular topic based on the publications of other experts.
Thirdly, it is necessary to determine the timeline and the scope. Therefore, one has to find and read sources; summarize the key points related to the subject; prepare a rough draft; revise it, and prepare a final draft.
The next step is to write down the research question that will further become the thesis statement. It is to contain the information on the hypothesis, the means of proving or overthrowing it, and the most important takeaways.
Then, one has to learn how to find necessary sources and develop a detailed review. One may consult the academic sources in a library along with surfing the Internet. When reading information, one is to focus on his or her research question, and, therefore, analyze, evaluate, compare and contrast as well as explain the reviewed data.
One should also take new information into consideration, considering that going through previously mentioned publications provides useful information and statistical data.
After the literature review, one has to keep his or her research question in mind and develop the thesis statement on its basis. NB: The research object may slightly change after a profound literary research.
After the accomplishment of the above-mentioned steps, one has to create the first draft of a paper. One has to write a thesis, what he or she feels and what he or she has learned on the topic. At first, one may provide the general background on the subject and then go to a detailed description and explanation of the finding, ending the draft with a conclusion.
Moreover, one may add direct quotes, summaries, and paraphrases into the paper in order to support one’s arguments or to highlight what one is trying to say. These are to be placed on the Works Cited page.
After one revises the rough (first) draft focusing on content, stylistic and grammatical mistakes, he or she may create the final draft. This last step includes checking of the appropriateness of the paper format and writing style. One has to review the title page and bibliography section, numeration, headings and subtitles, in-text citation etc. Then, one has to go through the paper one more time and hand it in, if no mistakes were detected.
Hence, conducting a research study calls for concentration, planning, and scientific thinking. One should not underestimate the importance of giving oneself enough time to go through all necessary stages to end up with a quality research paper that provides profound and actual information on the subject of choice.
